GasLog has bought into a company developing a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in northern Greece.

The LNG carrier owner has closed the sale and purchase agreement of a 20% shareholding in Gastrade, initially announced in December.

Gastrade is a private company controlled by Asimina-Eleni Copelouzou and has been working on the FSRU project for several years.

This move allows GasLog to gain a foothold in the offshore regas sector.

More investors have shown interest in taking part in the project, including Greek state-owned DEPA and Bulgarian companies.

A number of companies have also expressed interest in supplying LNG to the project, GasLog added.

The Alexandroupoli-based project has the backing of Greece and Bulgaria and is designated as a priority European Union (EU) project of common interest.
