US-listed New Fortress Energy (NFE) has promoted Andrew Dete to become its first president — a newly created position within the company.
The LNG producer and terminal developer said Dete, who was previously serving as managing director, will join the senior management team of chairman and chief executive Wes Edens, general counsel Cameron MacDougall and chief financial officer Chris Guinta.
Edens said: “Andrew has been fundamental to NFE’s commercial growth and development over the past few years, and we are proud to formally appoint Andrew to the role of president, as we see him as an integral part of NFE’s future.”
Dete has been a regular participant on NFE’s conference and market calls where he has updated analysts on the status of the company’s terminal projects.
An economics graduate, Dete began his career as an intern with the US Department of State.
He moved on to a brief spell as an analyst with Lehman Brothers just before its collapse in 2008 and then joined Barclays Capital in a similar role.
Dete shifted into project finance with SunPower Corp in 2011 before joining Goldman Sachs three years later where he was vice president of project, infrastructure and principal finance.
He joined New Fortress in October 2020 and is a board member of the company’s now spun off shipping business Energos Infrastructure and Centrais Eletricas de Sergipe (Celse), the Brazilian energy services company which NFE has worked with.
This month NFE exported a first full cargo from its new offshore liquefaction project off Altamira in Mexico. The shipment has since been discharged at the Gate LNG terminal in the Netherlands.
