Total and Pavilion Energy have teamed up on LNG bunkering in Singapore.
The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which Pavilion will supply LNG to Total for deliveries to its customers in the port of Singapore.
Further cooperation in logistics for similar activities will be explored, the companies said.
Pavilion was awarded an LNG supplier license by the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) last year and Total is a global gas player, involved across the entire LNG chain.
Patrick Pouyanne, chairman and chief executive of Total, said: “Our mission is to offer global and compliant solutions to our customers to meet the 2020 Global Cap requirements.
“The MoU with Pavilion Gas is a real opportunity for Total to make further inroads in this promising new market.”
Total is also a member of SEA/LNG, an industry association aiming at the promotion of LNG within the maritime industry.
The MoU with Pavilion was signed on the sidelines of Gastech 2017 in Tokyo.
Seah Moon Ming, chief executive of Pavilion, said: “Pavilion Energy views LNG bunkering as a future driver for LNG demand growth and welcomes this MoU with Total.
“The supply of LNG by Pavilion Gas as a bunker fuel in the port of Singapore supports Singapore’s position as a leading bunkering port, and contributes towards establishing a global LNG bunkering ecosystem.”
LNG is set to play a significant role in the maritime sector when the IMO’s global sulphur cap of 0.5% comes into force in 2020.
