The 174,000-cbm LNG carriers are owned by Teekay Corporation, China LNG Shipping, CNOOC Energy Technology and BW Gas of Norway and are currently under construction at China’s Hudong-Zhongua yard.

Wartsila described the latest deal as “a significant breakthrough into the Chinese market”.

The plant will reliquify 7% of the boil-off gas from the ships’ LNG cargo and return it to the cargo tanks, while no extra personnel are required for operation and maintenance, Wartsila said.

The first of the LNG carriers is scheduled for delivery in September 2017 with two to follow in 2018 and the last ship due in 2019.

All four are attached to 20-year charters with BG-controlled Methane Services.
