Specialist marine insurer Amphitrite Underwriting has appointed David Harris to the position of non-executive chair as it continues to grow.
Amphitrite described Harris as an industry “veteran”, having held senior positions, including chief operating officer, at insurance giants RSA, AXA, Amlin and Argo.
He was also a non-executive director of the Lloyd’s Market Association.
Amphitrite started business as a managing general agent in 2018 with 100% financial backing from the Arch group.
It specialised in older ships, small fleets and non-International Association of Classification Society- classed ships, which are often ignored by London’s insurance giants.
Harris said: “The team has very rapidly established itself as a leading provider in the marine insurance market. I am looking forward to working closely with its excellent leadership to support the expansion of Amphitrite's offering and further elevate its position in the marine market.”
The company was founded by a trio of former RJ Kiln Syndicate underwriters, Daniel Boutcher, Des Keane and Konstantinos Tampakakis.
“This marks a pivotal moment for Amphitrite as we embark on an exhilarating phase of growth,” said Tampakakis.
“David brings a wealth of strategic insight and a strong governance background which will be invaluable as we enrich our offering to clients and grow our business.”
