Britannia P&I has recruited Kate Kim as general manager of B Korea, its recently launched exclusive South Korean correspondent.

South Korea represents 9% of Britannia’s total entered tonnage and is a key market for the London-headquartered mutual.

Britannia chief executive Andrew Cutler said: “Her claims and customer service experience will enhance the service levels provided to members in Korea as well as help grow Britannia P&I’s business in the region.”

Britannia said Kim has extensive knowledge of protection claims after 16 years working for a leading insurance broker. The club said Kim would be focused on strengthening relationships with local members.

Kim said: “I am excited to be joining B Korea and delighted to be working with such a prestigious and reputable club. I am looking forward to working with our members and developing strong business relationships with them.”

B Korea is led by representative director Shin-Ho Park and Y K Park, founder of Britannia’s former correspondent P&I Bros.

Launching the Seoul-based company is in line with Britannia's policy of setting up independent offices in key markets.

It also has exclusive correspondent arrangements in Spain, Taiwan and the US, and regional hub offices in Greece, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Japanese cities of Tokyo and Kobe.

Britannia is not the only protection and indemnity club to be recruiting in South Korea recently. The London P&I Club recently took on P&I specialist Joo Hyun Park to bolster the company's local presence at its joint venture company AB Korea.
