UK shipbroker Clarksons’ head of compliance, Sandra Rosignoli, has joined the board of Maritime London to promote the UK capital’s shipping expertise.

The London-listed group’s general counsel becomes one of six directors, including the recently appointed Mike Salthouse, head of external affairs at ship insurer NorthStandard.

Maritime London is the industry-led body representing the UK’s maritime professional services, funded by companies and organisations.

It works to ensure that the UK remains a world-leading location for maritime-related business and trade.

Rosignoli has extensive expertise in risk management, regulatory compliance, litigation, governance and general legal advice in commodities, shipping, and trade and financial sanctions.

She has been at Clarksons since 2017, joining from the Trailstone group.

Before that, she was the first lawyer employed by trader Vitol as in-house counsel, from 2000 to 2011.

Rosignoli started her career at UK law firm HFW in 1993.

She said: “I am honoured to join Maritime London’s experienced board and be offered the opportunity to contribute to the UK maritime professional services community.”

“I feel strongly that the UK is, and should remain, a world-leading location for maritime professional services. I hope, in particular, that my voice can represent Maritime London’s legal and shipbroking members’ interests,” she added.

Informing members

In her new role, Rosignoli will support Maritime London’s mission to inform members of the latest developments within government and the market, and provide a vehicle to convene and discuss relevant industry issues.

She will also promote the “unparalleled expertise” in the capital, a statement said.

“We are delighted to welcome to the board of Maritime London an exceptional executive from one of our market-leading members. Sandra will bring a highly complementary skill set,” said chairman Harry Theochari, a fellow lawyer at Norton Rose Fulbright.

“Her expertise and clear commitment to Maritime London and its members makes her a superb addition. The existing directors and I are looking forward to working with Sandra,” he added.

The organisation is vice-chaired by Mark Jackson, chief executive of the Baltic Exchange.
