An Indonesian shipping executive has been held for questioning in a bribery probe.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Taufik Agustono, the Jakarta Post reported.
He is president director of shipowner Humpuss Intermoda Transportasi's subsidiary Humpuss Transportasi Kimia (HTK).
KPK commissioner Lili Pintauli Siregar said at a press conference on Friday that Taufik would be detained from 26 June to 15 July for further questioning.
"There will be an isolation period of 14 days as a part of our protocol to prevent Covid-19 transmission," she added.
The case involves former Golkar Party lawmaker Bowo Sidik Pangarso, who was sentenced in December by the Jakarta Corruption Court to five years’ imprisonment and fined IDR 250m ($17,000) for accepting a bribe.
The commission named Taufik as a suspect last October for his alleged involvement in bribing Bowo, who helped close a business deal between HTK and Pupuk Indonesia Logistik, a subsidiary of state-owned fertiliser enterprise Pupuk Indonesia Holding Co.
Allegations date from 2018 and 2019
Lili said that Bowo received several payments from HTK between November 2018 and March 2019, amounting to $88,733 and IDR 89.4m.
Separately, the court has also sentenced Asty Winasty, a former HTK marketing general manager who gave the bribe from the company, to 18 months’ imprisonment and a IDR 50m fine.
M Indung Andriani, who allegedly received the bribe on behalf of Bowo, was jailed for two years and fined IDR 50m.
Humpuss Intermoda has been contacted for comment. The company owns a fleet of 33 vessels, including tankers and LPG and LNG carriers. HTK is its domestic and international shipping division.
