London law firm Penningtons Manches Cooper has taken on shipping specialist Mona Patel as a partner in its corporate practice.

Patel, who has two decades of experience in transactional corporate and commercial law, joins from rival firm Ince Group.

Penningtons Manches Coopers said Patel has been taken on for her expertise in handling shipping and energy matters.

She has also worked in insurance, business and finance, aviation and technology. She will work closely with the firm’s marine, trade and energy team.

“Her expertise in corporate shipping and energy matters will serve to strengthen our team’s offering and provide a key link with other teams across the firm,” said Matthew Martin, head of Penningtons Manches Cooper’s corporate practice.

“She’s an extremely talented lawyer who demonstrates the utmost dedication to her clients; she’ll be a true asset as we continue to grow.”

Patel said: “The firm’s strength in shipping, and in wider marine, trade and energy work, make it a natural fit for me — I’m looking forward to helping expand our offering and working with some very well-respected individuals.”

Patel is not the only lawyer to leave Ince recently. Paul Herring departed after 43 years with the firm to join the UK Defence Club.
