Jones Walker has beefed up its shipping practice with several attorneys from New Orleans-headquartered rival Fowler Rodriguez.

Friday, the US law firm announced it had hired George Fowler III and 10 other attorneys from Fowler Rodriguez, bolstering its New Orleans, Miami and Houston offices.

"Being able to attract the experience and legal skills of stellar attorneys like George Fowler and his team is a core piece of our growth strategy and is a testament to the service platform we’ve built to serve our clients domestically and internationally," said Jones Walker managing partner Bill Hines.

Fowler and Edward LeBreton III, Luis Llamas, Luis Enrique Cuervo, Michael McCoy, Santiago Padilla, Mark Rich, Juan Serralles IV sign on to their new firm as partners, while Michael Rosen joins as special counsel and Caroline Sanches and Lauren Kurtz join as associates.

The firm expects to add Hornbeck Offshore, Edison Chouest Offshore, John W Stone Oil Distributio and Alliant Insurance Services to its roster of clients.

According to Jones Walker, the two firms got together at the encouragement of Jose Suquet, chief executive at Pan-American Life Insurance Group, whose company had worked with both outfits.

Suquet said Fowler Rodriguez had worked with his company throughout Latin America, while Jones Walker had provided service on M&A deals.
