There's another Chalos at Chalos & Co.
The prominent Long Island-based firm announced this week that Michael Chalos, father of the firm's prinicipal George Chalos and 40-year maritime law veteran, has joined of cousel.
"I keep telling him, I'm the 'Chalos' and he's the 'and company','" George Chalos joked Thursday. "I'm really happy to have the opportunity to work with my dad again."
The younger Chalos worked under his father at Chalos and Brown after graduating from St. John's University School of Law in Queens. He continued there until 2008, when he struck out on his own.
Over the next 11 years, Chalos & Co. has opened offices in Miami and Houston in addition to the one in Oyster Bay, with affiliate officers in Athens, Limassol and Riga. Domestically, the firm employs 10 attorneys, including the elder Chalos.
Michael Chalos is best known for defending the masters of the Exxon Valdes oil tanker. He has represented corporations, shipiowners and others, both US-based and foreign, in cases involving international, federal, state and local regulations.
