UK law group Reed Smith has appointed two new shipping partners in the UK and US.

The moves are part of a global boost of 23 new partners in all sectors.

Antonia Panayides becomes a partner in London.

Her experience includes handling charterparty, shipmanagement, bill of lading, sale and purchase and contract of affeightment disputes, whether subject to High Court or arbitration jurisdiction.

"Antonia acts for owners, charterers, ship managers and brokers, as well as P&I clubs. Her knowledge extends to the offshore sector where she assists in disputes arising from drilling, FPSO and supply vessel contracts and represents owners, contractors and operators in the offshore field," the company said.

Jane Sarma has been promoted in New York. She is a maritime litigator who has been involved in nearly every one of the major shipping Chapter 11 cases in New York.

She also has developed a sub-speciality in sanctions and other US shipping regulatory work.

Both were previously counsel for Reed Smith.

“The firm’s new partners represent a broad cross section of our global platform and of our industry and practice groups,” said Sandy Thomas, Reed Smith’s global managing partner.

“These individuals have distinguished themselves as talented lawyers, who put Reed Smith and their colleagues first and who are vested in helping our clients achieve success in their business endeavours."
