Samudera Shipping Line says it has finally secured the freedom of a supramax bulker five months after it was detained in Honduras.
The Indonesian shipowner told investors that the 57,400-dwt supramax Sinar Kapuas (built 2011) was released on 13 April 2019.
The ship has been detained in the port of San Lorenzo since November 2018 due to a cargo claim by a local shipper.
The vessel is currently on its way to Balboa, Panama, for intermediate survey, hull cleaning and bunkering, the shipowner said.
Samudera said it was now working on securing employment for the vessel and deploy it as soon as it has completed repairs in Panama.
Earlier this month, Samudera told investors that plans to have the vessel had been released saying the process was taking “longer than expected”.
It had initially expected to secure the release of the vessel in March 2019, but said at the time it was confident of securing the release in the second quarter of this year.
In early April Samudera said the claim amount has been compromised at $600,000 and that this falls within the initial estimated financial impact of $1.7m.
It added that it was still ascertaining the financial impact of the incident and would make a further update when it was in a position to do so.
