A US customs agent has been sentenced to 30 days of house arrest for failing to inspect ship.
Carl James Jr was also ordered to complete 200 hours of community service.
The Virginian-Pilot website cited court documents as saying James, 38, was the only agricultural specialist working at Virginia International Gateway in Portsmouth.
He was tasked with checking for invasive species or diseases.
But an internal probe was launched in 2017 after he filed a report about OOCL's 13,208-teu boxship OOCL Chongqing (built 2013).
It contained an inaccurate email address, which prompted a check that revealed the vessel had never been inspected.
The document listed an incorrect number of crew and said the inspection took place six hours after the vessel left port.
Assistant US attorney Joseph Kosky said in court documents that James should have checked about 100 ships each year.
But only 51 reports could be found - and there were problems with several of those.
Some vessel officers said they had not been inspected.
James confessed to lying about some of the details and admitted falsifying six reports between 2015 and 2017.
Defence attorney Nicholas Renninger denied James was lazy, saying he couldn't keep up with his responsibilities.
