Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) has expanded its new maritime dispute resolution department in Athens by adding yet another lawyer previously with Ince & Co.
George Iatridis, Ince’s former head of Greek law dispute resolution in Piraeus, will be joining in the New Year, WFW said in a press release today.
“With a career spanning 29 years, George has built a reputation as one of Greece’s most distinguished litigators, regularly advising the full spectrum of shipping industry participants,” WFW said.
Iatridis has represented several shipowners, P&I clubs, banks, insurers and reinsurers in high-profile cases, including the sinking of the 22,400-gt cruiseship Sea Diamond (built 1986) off the island of Santorini in 2007.
His hiring represents a further step in WFW strategy to expand its maritime legal service capabilities across the world, starting in Athens, where it boosts its English and Greek law maritime dispute team.
This drive began earlier this month, when another two former Ince lawyers joined WFW Athens: Antonis Lagadianos, who used to be the head of Ince’s Piraeus office, and Evangelos Catsambas.
WFW partner Athens head George Paleokrassas said: “Combined with our new English law capabilities in the same arena, courtesy of Antonis and Evangelos, WFW now clearly ranks among the leading law firms in Greece for contentious maritime expertise”.
Ince & Co has been earlier this year taken over by the Gordon Dadds Group (GDG) to create the UK’s largest listed law firm by revenue.
