BG Group has kicked off the first of what could be a five-well exploration programme off Tanzania that is seeking to prove up enough reserves to underpin a two-train LNG complex.
In block 1, the Mzia-1 well’s top hole section is being drilled after which the rig will fully drill the Jodari-1 probe, targeting some 2.2 Tcf.
The drillship will then complete Mzia-1 before heading to block 3 to drill Papa-1. Two optional wells may follow.
BG and partner Ophir Energy have made three gas discoveries so far at Chewa and Pweza in block 3 and Chaza in block 1.
