Gazprom has highlighted areas of common interest at independent gas producer Novatek’s greenfield projects, including Yamal LNG.

The Russian gas giant’s executive chairman Alexei Miller recently met Novatek chairman Leonid Mikhelson to discuss co-operation.

The first area of collaboration is the north-east part of the Yamal Peninsula where Novatek is chief shareholder and leader in a project to develop the South Tambey gas field and export its output as LNG.

The companies talked about Novatek increasing processing capacity at its LNG plant near the port of Sabetta, which is due to open in 2016.

Gazprom said it supports additional capacity to give an outlet for its own greenfield gas developments on the Yamal Peninsula.

Novatek signed an agreement in June 2010 with Gazprom’s export subsidiary to handle its LNG sales.

Gazpromexport is already counting on the volumes to support its long-term strategy of increasing Gazprom’s presence in the global LNG market, according to presentations by executives.
