French supermajor Total claims partners in Russia’s Shtokman LNG export project are still studying the plan. The portfolio player said the development is not on hold, contrary to a number of reports to that effect.“There’s been a lot of news in the press, which seem to be incorrect... Clearly, what we can say is that the project is not stalled,” said Total Gas & Power president Philippe Sauquet during an investor update. “What we can say is that on the technical scheme that has been considered so far the economics were not robust enough to convince the partners, including Total obviously, to take (a) positive decision vis-a-vis the project.”Sauquet added that Total is back and revisiting the technical requirements.Studies are continuing and the company is “confident that in the coming months we can have a better project that would allow Gazprom to select its partners and decide over launching the project”, he said.Russian giant Gazprom appeared to pull back from Shtokman last month.
