Australia's Woodside Petroleum is confident progress at its Browse LNG project will be unaffected by a court ruling over land acquisitions near the liquefaction plant.

The Supreme Court of Western Australia ruled that the state government’s notices of compulsory acquisition for land near James Price Point were not valid because they did not give complete descriptions of the plots.

However, the ruling also permitted the state to re-issue new notices.

Premier Colin Barnett, a passionate advocate of the proposed Kimberley LNG hub in James Price Point, told local media he is not concerned by the ruling and his government would issue new notices.

A Woodside spokesman said the company was not a party to the court action. “The provision of the land for the Browse LNG precinct is a matter for the state.

“Woodside does not believe that this result will impact on our work programme and our activities are continuing on-site as scheduled.”
