Qatari officials have met with Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Osama Kamal to hammer out details of a proposed gas-importing contract. Egypt’s daily al Ahram newspaper reported that under the proposed contract, an estimated 400-500 million cubic feet per day of LNG would be shipped to Egypt. This comes following a separate announcement that Qatar was to invest in a new LNG facility planned for the northern city of Port Said. The project is to be part of an $8 billion complex which will include power, iron and steel plants. Egypt already has two LNG export facilities, one in Damietta and one at Idku.
