James Alton said he has endured a stressful and debilitating 18 months since being denied a job at Royal Caribbean Group.

He told TradeWinds: “I’m not too good, it’s getting a bit much for me, but I’m trying to remain as stoical as possible.”

Of his bipolar disorder, he said: “It’s horrible. One day you can be happy and the next you want to kill yourself.”

Alton is trying to get his own video talent show company off the ground, called Now That’s Entertainment. “It’s not taken off yet, but I’ve put a lot of hard work into it,” he said. “I’ve been doing it all my life. I love to entertain people and make them happy.”

After his dismissal, Alton said in his witness statement that he was “traumatised and I was distraught and stressed. I was so upset and stressed and I could not talk about what happened without crying. I do feel that what happened to me has given me PTSD [post-traumatic stress disorder] and I don’t think I will ever get over what happened.

“At night-time, I have to lock my door every night, even though I’m the only one in my apartment. I feel this has scarred me for life.

“Can you imagine being flown around the world to start my dream job and then it being taken away from me? This has only made my mental illness flare up even more and my anxiety is very bad. This has broken me.”
