Subsea7 has bolstered its offshore fleet in a pricey deal, according to brokers.

Sources said the Kristian Siem-backed contractor and shipowner acquired the 113-loa multipurpose platform supply vessel (MPSV) African Inspiration (built 2014) from Marine Platforms in Nigeria.

One source said the “whacking great price” was around $80m in strong offshore markets.

The Havyard Leirvik-built vessel is assessed as worth $72m by VesselsValue, up from $31m two years ago.

Oslo-listed Subsea7 has been contacted for comment.

The group controls one other MPSV built in 2008 among its fleet of 18 ships, mostly cable-layers.

The Nigerian seller retains two other MPSVs built in 2010 and 2009.

Norwegian tycoon Siem’s Siem Industries has 23% of Subsea7.

Last week, Subsea7 said it had won a “sizeable contract” for offshore oil and gas work worth between $50m and $150m.

The deal is subject to a final investment decision in the coming weeks.

Offshore activities are scheduled for 2026, but no other details are being released.

Siem Offshore fleet split

Siem has been busy in shipping of late.

On Friday, he struck a deal to exit his Siem Offshore vessel-owning company to leave fellow Norwegian tycoon Christen Sveaas with control.

Siem Offshore said it had sold nine offshore ships to a private Siem company in a transaction that will see chairman Siem depart.

Elsewhere, brokers reported that Northern Survey has bought the 75-loa light construction support vessel Freja (built 2003) from another Danish company, NCT Offshore.

The ship, valued at $24.4m, has been renamed Northern Victoria. No price is known for the deal.
