Adnoc Logistics & Services (Andoc L&S), the shipping arm of state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Co, is aiming to expand its heavylift services by partnering with Dutch operator Roll Group.
The company has been in rapid expansion in recent quarters in support of its parent’s ambition to lift oil and gas output later this decade.
“The partnership with Roll Group is an important step in the growth of our integrated logistics operations, particularly for heavy haulage,” Adnoc L&S chief executive Abdulkareem Al Masabi said in a statement.
“Heavylift services are an integral part of any large EPC [engineering, procurement and construction] contract, and this combined capability allows us to deliver a comprehensive and cutting-edge solution, which also turns out be more economical for the project.”
Adnoc L&S and Roll will jointly offer end-to-end heavy lifting and transport solutions based on the partnership agreement, including full-scale installation for EPC contracts.
In addition to operating seven heavylift vessels, Roll is specialised in installing the equipment it transports.
Adnoc L&S, which does not own heavylift ships itself, operates logistics bases in Ruwais, Fujairah and Mussafah.
Roll will set up a permanent base at Adnoc L&S’ Mussafah facility as part of the agreement and relocate its self-propelled modular trailers to Riash.
Consolidating expertise
“We have formed this partnership to consolidate our expertise in response to the changing market conditions and our clients’ requirements,” said Roll’s regional sales director Nimalan Logeswaran, whose company has been active in the United Arab Emirates.
“By providing a single integrated source covering end-to-end logistics solutions, Adnoc L&S and Roll Group can now offer our clients an optimised and economical approach for their logistical needs on oil and gas projects.”
This integrated approach is expected to reduce overall project costs for customers, including Adnoc.
“The UAE is currently making large investments in new downstream and industrial facilities and refurbishing existing plants,” Al Masabi said.
“As part of our broad strategy across shipping, integrated logistics and marine services we are creating an integrated ecosystem that can meet the transport and logistical needs of such large and critical oil and gas projects.”
Several major oil and gas projects are at the bidding stage in the UAE. If awarded, they will require heavylift land transport, marine transport, engineering and other associated services.
The collaboration between Adnoc L&S and Roll plans to provide fully integrated services in the UAE and other parts of the Middle East.
