Bourbon and Horizon Maritime are joining forces on a harsh-environment offshore joint venture.
The Canadian-French tie-up, Bourbon Horizon, will focus on serving the North Sea and Canadian markets with a fleet of five platform supply vessels, a large anchor handling tug supply ship and a multipurpose support vessel.
It will also offer ship management services.
“Horizon is pleased to partner with Bourbon Marine & Logistics, a global leader in the offshore service market and I’m excited to join my colleagues in this joint venture,” said joint venture managing director Cliff Gaetz.
“Bourbon Horizon AS will combine our expertise in challenging offshore environments, focused on delivering modern equipment, experienced personnel, innovative solutions and exceptional value in support of offshore oil and gas and renewable projects.”
The joint venture will be incorporated in Norway, with offices in Fosnavag and St John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador.
Gaetz — who according to his LinkedIn profile has spent more than three years as Horizon Maritime’s director of offshore services — will be joined by Bjorn Remoy as managing director of Horizon Bourbon Norway.
Stale Kyrkjedelen and Colin Doody will serve as operational leads.
“This strategic joint venture combines two groups specialised in the offshore sector, with cultures and visions aligned on the future of the offshore industry,” said Remoy.
Since emerging from restructuring in 2020, Bourbon has pared down its fleet and pushed into offshore wind.
Last year, it cut deals with Germany’s RWE and Norwegian start-up Integrated Wind Solutions to support wind farm construction.
Horizon Maritime was one of six Canadian companies joining together to develop domestic biofuels.
