Martin Helweg has left Dubai-based offshore giant P&O Maritime Logistics after nearly eight years, the last four as chief executive.

Talk about his departure began circulating throughout the offshore sector shortly after parent company DP World announced last week that its global chief operating officer of marine services and Unifeeder chief executive, Jesper Kristensen, was leaving.

Helweg confirmed his departure in a social media post published late on Tuesday.

“After some incredible years as CEO at P&O Maritime Logistics, it is time for me to step aside and move towards new opportunities,” he said.

“My time in P&O has been filled with numerous highlights, and I am particularly proud of our team’s resilience. Despite the challenges in the world and our industry, we have consistently delivered beyond expectations, surpassing our targets every year without fail.”

Helweg joined P&O Maritime Logistics from Svitzer in 2017, when the company was still known as Topaz Energy & Marine.

Taking over as chief executive from Rene Kofod-Olsen in March 2020, he navigated the company through one of the toughest offshore sector slumps in history.

Helweg did not elaborate on what the new opportunities he is moving towards are, but indicated he intends to stay in the offshore sector.

“Now more than ever, there are attractive and significant opportunities in our markets that look for the best platform to materialize, and I am determined to continue propelling our industry, companies and colleagues forward,” he said.
