Petrobras has ordered its third floating production, storage and offloading vessel newbuilding in Singapore in as many months.

Its latest contract with Sembcorp Marine takes its spending on floaters in the city state to almost $9bn this year following orders for two similar units at Keppel Corp.

Ordered at a cost of $3.05bn, this latest FPSO is due to be delivered in the first half of 2026, Sembcorp Marine said Wednesday.

The P-82 FPSO is the largest contract secured by Sembcorp Marine from Petrobras and will add more than SGD 4.25bn ($3bn) to the Singapore company’s order book of SGD 2.5bn at the end of the second quarter.

The newbuild FPSO will be one of the largest vessels to be deployed in the Buzios field, an ultra-deepwater oil and gas field in the pre-salt Santos Basin, about 180 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

It will be the tenth vessel to operate in the pre-salt field, adding a production capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil per day and 12m-cbm of gas processing per day.

The P-82 is said to be part of Petrobras’ new generation of production facilities, characterised by their high production capacity and by technologies to reduce CO2 emissions.

The unit will also be equipped with water injection capacity of 250,000 barrels per day and a storage capacity of 2m barrels of oil.

William Gu, head of Sembcorp Marine Rigs & Floaters described the newbuilding contract as a “landmark project”.

“Sembcorp Marine has a suite of engineering, procurement and construction newbuild execution capabilities built on a strong track record of floating production facilities deliveries to FPSO operators and oil majors,” he said.

“Combined with our state-of-the-art yard facilities in Singapore and Brazil, we are well placed to undertake complex projects such as the P-82 FPSO.”

Sembcorp Marine said it has delivered a significant number of projects for Brazil and Petrobras over the years, including FPSOs, production platforms, floating storage regasification units, drilling rigs and accommodation vessels, to support Brazil’s energy infrastructure.

Keppel Corp has recently won two FPSO contracts from Petrobras for the P-80 and P-83 units in deals worth $2.8bn each.
