The meeting approved the acquisition of stakes in Norwegian offshore companies Prospector Offshore Drilling and SD Standard Drilling along with a near 36% share in Vallhall Fotballhall.

Saga, an Oslo listed company that sold its vessels in 2011, was once part of the shipping empire of Arne Blystad. It is now controlled by controversial self made Norwegian billionaire Oystein Stray Spetalen (52).

Prospector Offshore Drilling has two state of the art jack-up rigs in service and a further three under construction at China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.

SD Standard Drilling is a also a jack-up owner but is without any rigs having sold its seven newbuilding contracts. It is looking for new investment opportunities in the offshore market.

As a result of the deal approved today Spetalen the chairman of Saga Tankers will own 98.3% the company.
