A seismic survey vessel owned by Seabird Exploration has had its contract extended, which will see the vessel mobilised to Northern Europe.

CGG has extended its charter of the 93-metre Eagle Explorer (built 2009) for a further 80 days, Seabird said in a filing to the Oslo Stock Exchange.

During the extension period, the vessel will work as a source vessel for the France-based geophysical services company at an undisclosed location in northern Europe.

The contract is now firm until 15 August, with options for CGG to extend the contract by up to 60 days.

The Eagle Explorer has been on a 160-day contract with CGG as a source vessel in Mexican waters of the Gulf of Mexico since November, when Seabird acquired the ship.

The ship underwent its 10-year class docking in December.

Neither the value of the initial contract or its extension were disclosed.
