Shearwater GeoServices has been awarded a new offshore survey contract for work in Turkey.
The company will undertake seismic acquisition and depth processing work for exploration firm Turkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklıgı (TPAO), which is backed by the Turkish Wealth Fund.
Shearwater’s 112-metre survey vessel Polar Empress (built 2015) begin work in the second quarter and will cover an area of 2,200 km2, the company said.
The scope of work will include fast-track processing, followed by full time and depth processing.
Neither the value of the contract nor the specific location of the survey were disclosed.
“We are very pleased to see the Polar Empress contracted by TPAO for this 14-streamer survey, following on from efficient operations elsewhere completing ahead of schedule,” Irene Waage Basili, Shearwater’s chief executive, said.
AIS tracking data shows the Polar Empress conducted survey work in offshore Montenegro during November and in Omani waters from January to early March.
Shearwater had estimated it would take around three months to complete the latter contract, which was awarded in December by Eni Oman and its partner Oman Oil Company Exploration and Production.
The AIS data appears to show the work was completed in around 2.5 months.
“Achieving operational efficiency within each project and maximising utilisation over a programme of projects is key to our results,” Irene Waage Basili commented.
Shearwater is 20% owned by GC Rieber Shipping of Norway.
