TechnipFMC will be deploying its flagship pipe-layer to help BP expand one of the largest oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Houston-based subsea technology company confirmed Tuesday the 33,800-gt Deep Blue (built 2001) would be used to aid BP in its expansion of the Thunder Horse South Expansion 2 project, 200 km southeast of New Orleans and 1,830 meters underwater.
The project is worth up to $250m for the New York-traded French engineering outfit.
"We are very pleased to have been awarded this iEPCI [integrated engineering, procurement, construction and installation] contract for BP in the Gulf of Mexico," Technip's president subsea Arnaud Peton said in a statement announcing the move. "This award confirms the trust we have built over the long term with BP and demonstrates the continued adoption of our iEPCI offering."
In the deal, the company will manufacture, deliver and install subsea equipment, including tree systems, manifolds, flowline, umbilicals along with other devices and topside control equipment. It follows on a deal the two companies made in the first quarter of 2019 for the nearby Atlantis Phase 3 project.
