Shipbroker Simpson Spence Young (SSY)'s staff have run, cycled and walked their way to raising £32,632 ($43,256) for The Mission to Seafarers in the company's annual Charity Challenge.

For 2021 teams from across the company's global offices took part in another virtual challenge, this time to get from London to Singapore in just one month.

A leaderboard acted as an incentive for the 22 teams competing who covered a whopping 15,607 km in 30 days, making both the distance to the Lion City and half the return leg.

Coming in first with a distance of 2,615.1 km — it is all about those decimal places — was the team of SSY NY.

The Accountants and Spreadsheets took second place covering 2,599.9 km and no doubt lamenting that what could have been if only they had pedalled or trotted another 15.2 km.

And proving that not all dry bulk business has to be vanilla was London's Funky Handy team in third with 2,215.6 km.

In true broker style, there were also individual winners with an all-male line-up.

SSY Futures' James Ash took the title with 820 km, head of accounts in London Andy Williams coming in second with 631.9 km and dry cargo's Ashley Leek in hot pursuit on 602 km to claim third place.

Here's hoping the brokerage's female faces get a look-in at the top of the table in 2022.

Speaking about the fundraising efforts this year, SSY chairman Mark Richardson said the company was proud to support the charity.

Richardson said: "The working environment for seafarers has always been very challenging but the pandemic has taken this to new levels with many people being stuck on board for months, away from families and their loved ones."
