US company Utopia Residences has revived its plan to build a $1.1bn luxury cruiseship featuring permanent apartments for the super-rich.
Launch is planned for 2021 and the 190 flats have already been selling for between $4.4m and $36m, its boss has said.
David Robb, founder and chairman of the Utopia project, told Business Insider: "We describe it as the largest private yacht in the world.
"Cruiseships are built to last approximately 25 to 30 years. We're building Utopia to a 100-year specification. There's nothing like that in the world."
The plan was first mooted in 2009, and Samsung Heavy Industries had been lined up to build the vessel.
But tough finance markets for Utopia delayed the deal.
The letter of intent was reportedly amended in 2017, but it is unclear whether Samsung is still involved.
The 108,000-gt ship will be largely financed by the Frontier Group, a private equity firm with offices in Los Angeles and Washington, DC.
Frontier has said that the financing contingencies have been removed, clearing the path for the project to continue.
A Samsung official told TradeWinds in 2012 that it hoped to revive the deal at a later date.
Utopia spent two years discussing the project with Samsung and was intending to book the ship for delivery in 2014.
The company already operates the 386-berth cruiseship The World (built 2002).
