OSV specialist Arild Myrvoll has been appointed as managing director of Norwegian ferry operator Havila Kystruten.

The Per Saevik-owned company said Janicke Westlie Driveklepp has also been brought in as CFO, after the company broke rival Hurtigruten's century-old monopoly on government coastal services.

Saevik said: "There is a lot of interest in positions with Havila Kystruten and a number of highly qualified personnel have been interviewing.

"And we have put in place two very good candidates who will take the lead for the coastal route. They will help to develop a whole new organisation for a new and exciting activity."

Myrvoll was previously CFO and managing director of Rem Offshore and is currently managing director of Rem Maritime.

Havila Kystruten will run the Bergen and Kirkenes route for 10 years. It must order four new eco-vessels for the business.

Norwegian media has reported that the Barreras yard in Spain and Havyard in Norway will split the order.

Delivery of the 700-passenger vessels will be in 2021.

The bill could be upwards of $373m.

The group will employ 20 to 30 onshore and between 500 and 600 crew on its vessels.
