Australian group Austal has won a second ferry contract for its Chinese joint venture yard.
The company said Aulong Shipbuilding will design and build a 35-metre high-speed catamaran for Chinese mainland ferry operator Blue Sea Jet.
The vessel is worth AUD 5.6m ($4.45m).
The aluminium ship will carry up to 260 passengers at speeds of more than 26 knots.
The yard is starting work on a first ferry for Blue Sea later this month. This was ordered last August.
Austal CEO David Singleton said: “Our Aulong joint venture is a great example of how effective technology transfer is developing our export business, with Austal’s extensive commercial portfolio attracting existing and new customers in mainland China.”
“These contracts in China are creating additional opportunities for our Australian based design and production teams who support the construction of vessels in-country."
The venture was set up with Guandong Jianglong Shipbuilding of Zhuhai. Austal has 40% ownership.
