Bowspirit Kids Group, a charity which helps traumatised children, is looking to create the world’s largest floating pinboard.
The move is part of efforts to acquire a passenger ferry to operate year-round as a nautical recreation camp for sick children and their siblings.
Charity co-founder Michael Speckenbach said the pinboard will be plastered across the sides of the vessel.
Bowspirit, which was set up in Lubeck, Germany, this spring, has started crowdfunding, using a virtual pinboard to register entries of financial support.
Once the vessel has been purchased, a printed version of the pinboard will be fixed to the sides of the ship.
Mobile advertising
The board will remain on the vessel for at least 12 months as it travels around the world, serving as mobile advertising.
Prices start at €1 ($1.13) per square centimetre with a minimum of 18 sq cm for text messages, or 100 sq cm for graphic posts.
There is a 50% reduction on the price of the first 520,000 sq cm, with a maximum of 200 sq cm per supporter.
Speckenbach said it is already the largest-ever virtual pinboard and visitors to its website can browse through the entries.
“It is our goal to have filled our virtual ship’s sides by early summer 2019,” he said. “It is an ambitious project. Every contribution counts.”
