Monsoonal weather did little to dampen the spirit of Dream Cruises president Thatcher Brown as the company's latest ship arrived in Singapore from Meyer Werft last week.
The 3,360-berth World Dream (built 2017) is Dream Cruises' second vessel, and Brown now claims the outfit has a "fleet" of ships.
The World Dream is a sistership to the Genting Dream (built 2016), which launched Genting Cruise Lines' upmarket Asian brand.
Brown says two ships give the company enough capacity to broaden its itineraries in Asia, with the World Dream homed in Hong Kong and China’s Pearl River Delta. The Genting Dream will be permanently based out of Singapore.
Genting has been a loyal customer of Papenburg-based Meyer Werft since its pioneer cruise brand Star Cruises ordered a pair of 70,000-gt ships at the yard in the late 1990s.
The World Dream is likely to be the last vessel that the German shipbuilder will construct for the company. Genting will build vessels at its own MV Werften, a yard group it established two years ago by buying up a consortium of German constructors.
MV Werften is expected to cut steel for a pair of 200,000-gt ships for Star Cruises in early 2018, with the first of the 5,000-berth vessels scheduled for delivery in 2020.
Brown has given no indication of any more additions to his newly established Dream Cruises' fleet.
