MSC Cruises has clocked up two more cruise ship newbuildings at Fincantieri.
Borsa Italiana-listed Fincantieri announced a contract to expand the Seaside class series was signed today.
The additional ships were added as the 154,000-gt MSC Seaside was delivered from the shipbuilder.
In a statement, MSC Cruises says the deal means it has an EUR 10.5bn investment programme in place spanning 12 ships for delivery through until 2026.
Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of MSC Cruises, said: “As we are nearing the end of 2017, we can look back on a year when we enjoyed unprecedented capacity growth.
“With two of the more innovative new ships in the industry having come into service in the past six months and now with the addition of two Seaside EVO ships to our investment plan, we are now even better positioned to further extend our global footprint.
“We are expecting the delivery of at least one new ship each year through 2026, with six to have come into service between 2017 and 2020.”
Sergio Matarella, President of the Italian Republic, and Graziano Delrio, the Minister of Infrastructures and Transport, were both at the launch of the new ship today.
