Ro-ro player Finnlines has logged more profit growth as revenue rose in the first quarter.

Net earnings were EUR 11.2m ($12.45m) from EUR 8.3m in 2016.

Revenue increased to EUR 120.9m against EUR 105.2m over the same period.

CEO Emanuele Grimaldi called the performance "very strong."

"The superb result improvement during these past four years has brought Finnlines Group’s financial and operational performance to an all-time high," he said.

"We are geared for growth and with the Finnish market finally showing a positive development we trust we continue to perform well also during the latter part of the year.”

During the first quarter, Finnlines operated on average 19 ships, down from 21 last year.

Cargo volumes hit 165,000 units, up from 153,000, as well as 32,000 cars, a rise of 1,000.

There were also 310,000 tons of non-unitised freight, down from 369,000, and 115,000 passengers, up from 113,000.
