Meyer Group is looking to fill 250 vacancies at its German facilities as it grapples with a massive cruiseship orderbook.
The family-owned shipbuilder, with yards in Papenburg and subsidiary Neptun Werft in Rostock, is seeking skilled production specialists such as welders and electricians, transport and crane operators, as well as engineers and designers. Meyer, whose orderbook is full for several years ahead, has even guaranteed employment to workers until 2030.
It is also scouting for technology specialists because of what it describes as implementation of a new “IT landscape”, including the launch of systems applications and data processing products across the company.
Dozen cruiseships
Meyer Werft’s Papenburg yard has orders for around a dozen cruiseships, including the 180,000-gt AIDAnova, which was launched recently and is at the outfitting pier for delivery soon. The AIDAnova is the first LNG-powered cruiseship to enter the market.
Six river cruiseships are under construction or on order at Neptun Werft for Viking River Cruises.
Construction is continuing in Papenburg’s Dock 11 of Royal Caribbean International’s 168,600-gt Spectrum of the Seas and Norwegian Cruise Line’s 167,800-gt Norwegian Encore. In Dock 1, Saga Cruises’ 58,250-gt Spirit of Discovery is taking shape. All are pencilled in for delivery in 2019. If Silversea’s memorandum of understanding for two Evolution class cruiseships is added, Papenburg’s orderbook swells to at least 14 newbuildings.
Sister yard Meyer Turku in Finland has eight cruiseships on order for TUI Cruises, Costa Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean.
