Passengers were removed from a ferry in Fiji due to a previous booking by the army.

They were told to leave Patterson Brothers Shipping's 2,300-gt Spirit of Love (built 2001), according to the Fiji Times.

The company said the vessel had previously been chartered by the country's military forces.

A spokesperson said: “There is a possibility that there was a communication breakdown between our staff and passengers which may have caused the mix-up and we would like to apologise to our passengers for any inconvenience caused."

The vessel was due to transport soldiers who were part of a contingent of 500 undertaking a Victoria Cross exercise in Vanua Levu back to Viti Levu.
