Tallink has pushed up its profit in the traditionally busy second quarter as it carried more passengers.

The Estonian ferry owner reported net income of EUR 17.9m ($21m) from March to June, compared to EUR 9.8m in the prior year.

It said the Easter holiday traffic fell into the beginning of the second quarter this year, while in 2016 it fell into the first.

Tallink’s revenue rose by 6% to EUR 259.9m as the company increased its passenger volumes to 2.6 million, up by 6.8%.

All routes where Tallink operates contributed increased revenue to the final result.

The management has raised its 2017 forecast and expects to make more thanks to the start of operations of the new LNG fast ferry Megastar.

During the second quarter, Tallink reduced its net debt by EUR 37.2m to EUR 653.7m and it had EUR 92.2m in cash at the end of June.
