German cruiseship group TUI has said investments in new ships are paying off as profit rises.

In its 2018 financial year, both capacity and earnings have seen growth, it added.

Underlying EBITA was up 26.8% to EUR 324m ($367.5m).

The average rate per passenger per day was EUR 178 for TUI Cruises, up from EUR 173 a year ago.

The figure for Marella Cruises was £141 ($178m), up from £131, and for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises it was EUR 615, against EUR 594 in 2017.

TUI Cruises managed average occupancy of 100.8%, down from 101.9%.

At Marella, this was 100.9%, down from 101.7% and at Hapag-Lloyd Cruises it was 78.3%, up from 76.7% in 2017.
