Singapore shipbuilder Vard Holdings has won a deal for a new expedition vessel.

Coral Expeditions of Australia will take delivery of the cruiseship in the first quarter of 2019 from Vard's Vung Tao plant in Vietnam.

The vessel has been designed by Vard Design in Norway to travel to remote and exotic destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Vard 6 01 ship will be 93.5 metres long and carry 120 people. No price was given.

Coral Expeditions has a fleet of three Australian-flagged ships.

Headquartered in Cairns, it offers trips to largely unseen parts of the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, as well as Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, South Pacific islands and South East Asia.
