Fednav held a party in Singapore last week attended by some 150 shipping executives including traders, charterers and major dry bulk brokers.

Jon Mann, director of Fednav, said the shindig at a traditional Greek restaurant was not only a get-together for guests but to introduce executive vice president and chief operating officer Isabelle Brassard, senior vice president of commercial Frank Mortensen and vice president of fleet management Martin Krafft who were visiting Singapore.

The party was timely as the last big reception Fednav held in Singapore was five years ago when the company celebrated its 75th anniversary.

The crowd was served delicious Greek and Mediterranean food and a wide selection of drinks. It was a perfect party with guests relaxing and “catching up”.

Fednav Singapore was started in early 2011 with only two people but the office now has 14 staff.

“We are responsible for our in-house tonnage [all types of bulkers] within the Pacific/Indian oceans,” said Mann.

“We coordinate the bookings for FedPac, which is our liner trade to USG/USEC/Great Lakes. We also manage our Far Eastern cargo bookings [contract-of-affreightment and spot business] and are involved in long-term period deals with Singaporean owners.

“Fednav has grown … when the Singapore office was established, we didn’t even own any supramaxes. We were more into handysize bulkers and had on period charter a handful of small supramaxes.”

Today, Fednav controls around 120 vessels of which 64 are owned. The Singapore office is responsible for about 25% of the overall fleet.
