Finding a distinctive venue for a milestone celebration can be tough, especially in a vibrant city like Singapore, where guests have likely visited many of the popular spots before.
Chemical tanker pool operator Womar Logistics found itself in a lucky position with the timing of its 15th-anniversary cocktail party in the city-state. The celebration coincided with the visit of the Dutch tall ship Stad Amsterdam (built 2000), which was in port during its global circumnavigation, adding a unique and memorable touch to the event.
At 76 metres in length and capable of hoisting 31 sails with a total area of 2,200 square metres, the Stad Amsterdam, which is designed along the lines of a traditional clipper ship, is also a passenger ship with 14 cosy cabins outfitted in classic luxury.
Such a venue resulted in a strong turnout of guests from the chemical tanker sector. Some even flew in from as far afield as Greece and South Korea.
The Stad Amsterdam is currently undertaking a three-year world cruise that has seen it sail across the Atlantic and Pacific, calling at ports in Asia and Australia, and will continue to India, Africa and the Americas before crossing the Atlantic a third time to reach its homeport of Amsterdam, where it is scheduled to dock in August 2025.
The ship is available for dockside corporate events during extended stays in port.
Womar chief executive Hans Van der Zijde said the Stad Amsterdam is such a unique and popular venue that the company will hold more parties on board as it makes its way to other ports on its worldwide itinerary.
