The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has made its head of operations, PK Mishra, joint managing director.

He shares the post with incumbent Vijay Arora.

Executive chairman Arun Sharma said that with the rapid expansion in IRClass’ fleet and geographical footprint, along with increasing client expectations, Mishra’s promotion would provide the necessary support to top management to improve the quality and response of its services.

Mishra joined IRClass as a surveyor in 1998, and over 25 years rose to become its chief surveyor.

IRClass said he has been “an integral part of the organisation” who has been an active contributor to the International Association of Classification Societies through panels and expert groups.

The organisation enlarged its fleet by more than 5m gt last year, when it expanded its global reach with new customers from the Middle East, Europe and Asia.

Sharma, in a 2019 interview with TradeWinds, said that going against the big names in the classification space has not always been easy.

Instead, the organisation has been targeting smaller owners with smaller ships, looking specifically at companies trading their vessels under good flag states.
