Cypriot multipurpose line Osterreichischer Lloyd (OL Shipping) has a new partner and chief operating officer.
It has appointed the experienced ship manager Sunil Kapoor to oversee the fleet.
“With a distinguished career spanning over 40 years in the maritime industry, Sunil brings a wealth of experience to our esteemed team,” the shipowner said.
“His extensive background and leadership roles in India, Hong Kong and Cyprus uniquely position him to drive Oesterreichischer Lloyd’s strategic initiatives.”
Kapoor will spearhead business development and deal-sourcing activities within the ship management and shipowning sector.
The new recruit was previously a director at Cyprus’ FML Ship Management, a Caravel Group company.
The subsidiary, founded in 2007, grew to employ 40 professionals and operate 45 vessels under technical management.
Kapoor also ran the day-to-day operations of affiliate Fleet Management’s offices in London, Turkey and Dubai.
The marine engineer earlier served as a Lloyds surveyor before moving to Hong Kong.
Kapoor joined Fleet Management in 1996 as a superintendent.
‘Vintage piece of furniture’
Leaving the group in October, he wrote on LinkedIn: “In 2007, I arrived in Cyprus with more than just a suitcase; I carried a vision for what would later flourish into Fleet Cyprus.
“Together, we’ve transformed this dream into something truly remarkable… Reflecting on these 27 years, I liken myself to a vintage piece of furniture — aged but resilient, having withstood the test of time.
“Now the moment has come to pass the leadership baton and explore fresh horizons. While some may see this as the end of an era, I consider it the dawn of a new chapter.”
Kapoor is on the board of governors of the Cyprus Maritime Academy and is a director of the Cyprus Marine Club in Limassol.
He also participates in the technical committees of major classification societies.
OL Shipping controls three MPPs of 7,900 dwt built in 2008. Clarksons also lists another ship of 7,700 dwt built in 2010.
