Danish Shipping has found an experienced replacement for Maria Skipper Schwenn as director of climate, environment & safety.

The lobby group said Nina Porst, office head at the environment ministry, will join on 7 August.

“There were many good applicants in the pile, but after a thorough process it is clear that Nina Porst is the right woman to lead the climate, environment and safety department at Danish Shipping,” said chief executive Anne Steffensen.

“Nina brings both extensive professional knowledge of climate and environmental issues and has experience with environmental regulation within shipping. Added to solid management experience and political savvy, I am convinced that she will be a great asset to our members and Danish shipping.”

Former climate director Skipper Schwenn left in March for a new challenge and re-emerged in May as director of environmental, regulatory & public affairs at USTC-owned fuel supplier Bunker Holding.

Danish Shipping has long since set itself the goal of being climate neutral by 2050 and is now working to get the same goal adopted on a global level.

The new climate director will be particularly focused on this.

“Global shipping accounts for around 3% of the world’s total emissions, so we face an enormous challenge,” said Porst.

“I accept this challenge humbly and look forward to doing what I can, together with a skilled team of colleagues, to push the industry in a greener direction.”
