Anders Gronborg, previously chief executive of TFG Marine, has joined Bunker Holding as global head of sales.
The Danish marine fuel group said Gronborg will support its continued efforts in industry consolidation with his record with mergers and acquisitions.
“We are very excited to welcome Anders to Bunker Holding. It is a testament to our position as market leader that we can attract such a high-profile industry candidate,” chief commercial officer Christoffer Berg Lassen said.
“We see great value in his vast experience and industry know-how. Apart from managing and safeguarding many of Bunker Holding’s vital business areas, Anders will also be a significant sparring partner to group executive management around innovation and potential future areas of operation.”
Earlier this year, Gronborg spent six months at TFG — a venture between Trafigura, Frontline and Golden Ocean — as its first chief executive before a swift, surprising exit.
Trafigura, which owns 75% of TFG, said the departure was by mutual agreement and declined to comment further.
A sales and marketing graduate, Gronborg began his career in 1986 with Chemoil, where he spent five years in its European sales and marketing team based in Copenhagen.
In 1991, he joined Trans-Tec Services, which became World Fuel Services (WFS) in 1995.
Gronborg served as senior vice-president of WFS and board member of a number of affiliated companies at the time of his departure in 2018.
“I am looking forward to joining an ambitious company on an aspiring growth journey,” he said. “I am eager to contribute towards its short-term goals and long-term strategy.
“I can’t wait to begin this new chapter and to be part of Bunker Holding’s professional and dedicated team.”
Gronborg will join the company on 1 December and report to Lassen.
Bunker Holding is the world’s larger bunker supply by sales volume and WFS is the No 2 player, according to Ship & Bunker.
KPI Bridge Oil, one of Bunker Holding’s main subsidiaries, completed its merger with OceanConnect Marine to become KPI OceanConnect earlier this year.
