A time-chartered Eukor car carrier has been seized by Libyan militia loyal to warlord Khalifa Haftar.

The Libya Observer said a boat of armed men intercepted and boarded the 6,697-ceu Morning Compass (built 2013) as it was heading from South Korea into the port of Misrata.

There are 12 Filipinos and 5,000 cars on board.

The vessel was diverted to Ras Al-Hilal port in eastern Libya.

The LANA news agency of the country's eastern government reported the leader of the interception operation as saying that the ship ignored their calls notifying it that it was in a no-entry military zone.

“We sent a boat to stop the ship and then the ship was tugged into Ras Al-Hilal port to be scoured by the navy personnel,” he was cited as saying.

Haftar’s forces have previously seized a tanker carrying crude to Derna.

Eukor has been contacted for an update on the situation.
